It was South Africa’s first cash-and-carry store, utilizing advanced technology for inventory and sales management. By 1989, under the leadership of MD Mark Lamberti, the brand expanded, laying the foundation for Massmart, a leading wholesale and retail group, with Makro as its cornerstone. The renowned Woodmead store, established in 1993, stands out as a key retail destination in Johannesburg’s northern suburbs.
