Medical
From the outset, we recognised that accessibility and convenience were important for patients and were something that we needed to place at the centre of our care delivery model. We achieved this in a number of ways.
Our facilities are conveniently located and we have implemented extended operating times, including being open on weekends and public holidays. We also wanted to reduce the physical fragmentation in the location of medical services and brought a multitude of primary care services under one roof in a multi-disciplinary medical home.
In our centres, patients can access general practitioners, dentists, radiology, pathology, physiotherapists, psychologists, dieticians, optometrists, audiologists and pharmacies.
Our primary care centres place a significant emphasis on preventative services through, for example, the promotion of appropriate vaccination programmes and the provision of lifestyle advice.
They also focus a huge amount of their attention on screening and early detection, including cervical, breast and prostate cancer, HIV and diabetes, hypertension and dyslipidaemia.
Our medical services include:
• General Practitioners
• Pathology
• X-Rays
• Travel Clinic
• Dietician
• Physiotherapy
• Psychology
Another way of putting our patients first
A virtual consultation is a remote video conversation between a patient and a healthcare professional. It is a convenient way to consult your healthcare professional and get quality medical advice and treatment without making a trip to the consulting rooms. This process is not changing the who, but rather the when, where and how of care delivery.
You choose your doctor carefully and should not sacrifice personalised care for immediate care. Virtual care doesn’t replace face-to-face health care consultations but offers an alternative. It is a convenient way in which elderly patients, those with chronic diseases, patients with disabilities and those located far away can connect with a trusted healthcare professional. It is also a suitable alternative during the COVID-19 period of social distancing. Remote scripting can also be done.
Continuity of care is important. Because of its quality facility network, Intercare is one of few providers able to offer follow-up in-person consultations with the same doctor who you consulted virtually or the other way around.
Intercare Dental centres feature fully-fledged dental departments staffed by experienced dentists and oral hygienists qualified to provide a full range of dental services ranging from routine dental care to specialized dental services and oral hygiene.
Most of our dental departments offer:
• General dental services
• Oral hygiene
• Teeth whitening
• Porcelain crowns, veneers and inlays
• Implants
• Full dental rehabilitations
• Periodontal screening and treatment
• Treatment of occlusal disease
From possibility to ability
Sub-Acute care is a comprehensive and cost-effective inpatient programme for patients who have suffered an acute event as a result of an illness; injury or disease; have a determined course of treatment; and who do not require intensive diagnostic and/or invasive procedures.
Our sub-acute and rehabilitation hospitals also focus on patients with complex medical needs. These include patients who have suffered strokes or other forms of brain injury, spinal cord injuries, severe motor vehicle accidents or require post-operative rehabilitation to help ensure maximum restoration of mobility and quality of life.
In order to achieve this, we have set up multi-disciplinary teams typically composed of a general practitioner, nurse, case manager, physiotherapist, speech therapist, occupational therapist, psychologist, dietician and importantly, a social worker. These professionals come together frequently as a team to discuss each case and also conduct meetings with the patient’s family or caregivers.
They also work very closely with the health insurer and are integrated in terms of data exchange between the two. Intercare was the first group to develop a programme with Discovery Health on utilising this model of care to reduce admissions following discharge. Readmissions were reduced by 33% and preventable admissions by 50%.

Know the facts
Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when the pancreas is no longer able to make insulin or when the body cannot make good use of the insulin it produces. Insulin is vital as it enables the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins to produce energy. Not being able to produce insulin or use it effectively, leads to raised glucose levels in the blood which causes damage to the body and failure of various organs and tissues. Prediabetes occurs when your blood glucose is higher than it should be, but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes.
Diabetes is a complex systemic condition requiring a specialised approach and individualised programme of care.
