GET TO KNOW PHILLIP AND HIS JOURNEY TO BECOMING ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKERS IN SOUTH AFRICA.
Phillip Ramphisa grew up in a typical rural South African village. Saying his life was difficult is an understatement.
Phillip grew up in a big family. His father had two wives. He had nine siblings as well as a mother who was schizophrenic. His mom was never at home due to illness. When he was eleven years old, his father left his family to live with his second wife.
When Phillip grew up, he didn’t have a present mother and father; the only support he had were his siblings. They were children themselves, facing the same situation he was facing. There was nobody to look after them, and there were no role models or nobody around to give discipline.
“Nobody took care of us. There was never any money. I would often go to bed without supper, or wake up without breakfast”, says Phillip.
“I had to walk to school in shoes that were torn and showed my toes. I had to walk fourteen kilometers every day to get to class – in shoes in which my toes stuck out of. That’s not fun. I had to ask my friends for their old clothes. That’s not fun either. My self-esteem dropped. I felt very small.”
Today, Phillip is fortunate to have two master’s degrees including a master’s degree in Business Administration from Wits University. Phillip is currently studying for his Doctoral Degree in Business Leadership and has held management positions in various multi-national companies.
